Reasons
of drug addiction
We should know the reasons behind drug addiction in order to be able to
win our fight against drug addiction. So we collected some of these reasons
after we had made a questionnaire and these reasons are: 1)
Cigarettes:
If you think carefully then look at the cigarette ,you will find that
fire doesn’t burn the cigarette only but it also burns your health and your
spirit. Cigarettes cause a lot of dangerous disease like cancer…etc. If you agree to die by a cigarette, it doesn’t matter with you if you die by narcotics (drugs). So, the cigarette is the shortest way to drug addiction. And if you read statistics about cigarettes and smoking, you will find that we, in Egypt, have 6 million smokers, 74 thousand of them are under 10 years old yet, imagine!! And other statistics say “ In Egypt, children under 12 years who are smoking should be addicts when they grow up “. So
we should abstain from smoking and save our children from this danger. Don’t
they deserve our care?!! 2)
Bad friends: Friends trust each other as they spend a lot of time together at the school or at university or even in the streets of the neighborhood. So, they can affect each other and bad friends could lead the good ones to do bad things like taking drugs.
Bad friends are like the sea, one wave throws you to another one, till
you drown. And bad friends also throw you from one bad thing to another, till
you lose yourself. Friends
don’t force each other by guns and bombs but bad friends have another kind of
weapons, these weapons are talking, laughing and looks. So bad friends are more
dangerous than anything else and bad friends also are considered as the most
important reason of drug addiction. 3)
Family fights: Family fights play a great role in drug addiction as these fights manage youth to take drugs to escape these fights. They destroy all kinds of relations between youth and their families and these fights may be between parents or may be between young people and their brothers or sisters or even their parents. But the sure thing is that family fights make youth lose their self-confidence and lose their belonging to their families. Consequently, they don’t hesitate to do any thing to escape this hard life. So it will be easy for them to take drugs as they think that drugs gives them the world they dream about, and they don’t care what they will do to get money for drugs, they can do “any thing”. You can’t imagine what “anything” means. It means all kinds of evil as the addict will be under control of the devil when they take drugs. 4)
Loss of good model: Everyone has his own, models who (he or she) admire and respect and this model plays a great role in the youth’s life as youth do their best to be like this model. So if any one destroys the picture which he or she draws for this model, that means something in the youth will be broken! So sometimes youth look for another model and this new model may be one of their friends or may be from films and they try to be like those new models. So they begin to smoke and in other times take drugs to be like the hero that they see in the film. And ,in other cases youth take their parents as models, so if the parents destroy this imaginative picture which youth take for them like parents taking drugs, youth will feel that they are lost in the space so they fall in drug addiction easily. 5)
For from religions: Religions are the guards that make people safe from all dangers, so if people are far from religions, they will be a prey for all kinds of bad things and of course for drug addiction. Religions forbid drugs, so if we are really close to God we won’t fall in wrong way and if we fall, we can be back to the right way quickly. So religions is the rope that we should keep holding on it to survive and lead a good life. 6)
Poverty and money without control : Poverty is the most difficult problem that faces the world. Unfortunately, poverty lead some poor people to addict drugs, as they want to forget all the problems they suffer from. Addiction leads a lot of them to beg in streets to gain money to buy drugs. But it is horrible to know that even most of the people who are begging are children under 10 years old and they suffer from insult, humility and unrespectable and even ignoring from the society so they buy cons of glue to smell. But what about the rich?! There’s an Egyptian proverb that says " money without a guard is easily stolen " some rich parents give their children large sums of money. Besides the lack of suitable observation from the parents children may use money to buy bad things, books, cosmetics. …. etc or even cigarettes and drugs, some of them may become drug traffickers and others become addicts. In all situations they have a dramatic end. 7)
Media: Media with its all kinds has a great role in drug addiction as youth see in films the hero when he faces a great problem he smokes a cigarette and he probably take drugs then the things which he takes enables him to solve the problem and give him the power to survive. And they see also at the cinema or on television the man should smoke cigarettes to be the hero. So youth by imitation smoke when they face a problem because media make them believe that the one who deserves admiration and deserves to be a hero should smoke cigarettes and take drugs. 8) Other
things: There is a lot of other things youth choose as a reasons of drug addiction like: a) Youth have a lot of “spare time” and they don’t know how to spend it and where? So sometimes they could take drugs. b) Illiteracy with the kinds and the harms danger of drugs. c) Failure in education because they study some subjects only because their parents want them to do that. d) Unemployment. e) Curiosity and imitation. So we hope from you to fight all these reasons and stop drug addiction all over the world.
